IELTS Academic - Know All About It

Who Takes IELTS Academic? IELTS Academic is ideal for students wishing to enroll in undergraduate or postgraduate courses in universities and colleges in English-speaking countries.

IELTS Academic Test If you're planning to pursue higher education abroad or seek professional registration, then IELTS Academic is for you. This test assesses your readiness to begin studying or training in an English-speaking environment.

When moving to an English-speaking country for studies or employment, you will often need to provide proof of your English language proficiency. IELTS results are recognized by over 10,000 organisations, including educational institutions, employers, professional associations, and governments, in 140 countries worldwide.

IELTS Academic Test Format The test consists of four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.

Listening (30 minutes)

  • Four recorded monologues and conversations.

Reading (60 minutes)

  • Three long reading passages with tasks.
  • Texts may include diagrams, graphs, or illustrations.
  • Texts are taken from books, journals, magazines, and newspapers.

Writing (60 minutes)

  • Summarise, describe, or explain a table, graph, chart, or diagram.
  • Short essay task of at least 250 words.

Speaking (11 to 14 minutes)

  • Face-to-face interview without disruptions or distractions.
  • Includes short questions, speaking at length about a familiar topic, and a structured discussion.

Listening, Reading, and Writing tests are taken on the same day, one after the other, without any breaks in between. The Speaking test may be on the same day or up to a week before or after the test date. For the Speaking test, you can book a slot online on your preferred date and time. If you do not choose a slot within the stated time period, a time slot will be automatically allocated to you.

You can choose to take your test either on paper or on a computer, whichever is more convenient for you.
